Japan’s Finance Minister Wants Weaker Yen

Japan’s new finance minister, Naoto Kan, has called for a weaker yen.
At his first news conference Kan said he will work with the Bank of Japan to achieve an “appropriate” level.
The unusually explicit remarks from a Japanese finance minister prompted the yen to slide sharply against the dollar.
Kan said the cabinet will work on a financial framework for Japan’s long term economic recovery.
