Nearly 22 million people were unemployed in the EU

Unemployment in the euro area in July was 9.5 percent, according to figures of Eurostat. A month earlier was measured unemployment rate of 9,3 per cent, but compared to July 2008 has increased by two percentage points.

EU-wide number of unemployed is 9% of the working population. In one year the increase was 2%. During the previous June, unemployment reached 8.6 percent.
21.794 million Europeans are unemployed, the calculations show the statistical office of the EU. Around 15.9 million is the number of people without work only in countries of the EU.
The lowest unemployment in the Netherlands (3.4 percent), Austria (4.4%) and Cyprus (5.5%), while the lack of jobs is a serious problem for 18.5 percent of working Spaniards. Unemployment is high in Latvia (17.4 percent) and Lithuania (16.7%). On an annual basis in all countries by worsening the community parameters. Most slowly rising unemployment in Romania – from 5.7% to 6.2% in Germany (7.2% -7.7%).
