Oktoberfest was two centuries

With the swipe of a mallet on the stopper of a barrel of beer and polyphonic cry „O’tsapft IP“ (in German – roughly „is open“ – editor’s note.) Today opened the largest beer festival in the world – Germany’s Oktoberfest .

Then the fun starts, and this year is celebrating 200 years of tradition from the beginning, the magazine reported magazin-deutschland.de, quoted by BTA.

Each year nearly 6 million people arrive for the 16-day festival, many of them are dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes. This year’s festival will run from 18 September to 4 October and will certainly be a spectacular event, the Release Notes.

The popular festival stems from 5-day wedding celebration of Bavarian Prince Ludwig and Princess Theresa of Saxony October 12, 1810. Five days later – on October 17 – were organized racing and fun place to be called „Terezienvize (Theresa Meadow) in honor of the bride. The event took place shortly before the new season for brewing, which make it possible to drink all outstanding amounts from the previous year.

Because of this jubilee year the festival will last one more day.
