The horizontal branch as an official item in the economy

For the first time estimates of GDP in Hungary also includes prostitution and drug trade. These two „majors“ of the underworld fell to one percent of gross domestic product.

From the Finance Ministry in Budapest reported that these calculations are made solely due to the requirements of the European Union. One of the directives has been on publication of data on gross domestic product to be included and the proportion of income from the shadow side of the national economy.
Over one billion euros annual turnover
To fulfill this prescription, however, in distress must be handled with estimates. At the end of last month for the first time the figures were announced. With one percent of revenue Hungary shadowy sector occupies only an average place in comparison with other member countries of the European Union, stressed by the National Statistical Office in Budapest. The figures are based on studies that traced to 1995. These studies focus on police and medical data.
It is interesting to note that if the services of a prostitute has benefited foreign citizen suspected statistics recorded export revenues in the section. In 2005 the turnover of the prostitution and drug trade amounted to 1 billion and 270 million euros, while in 2000 – half of this amount.
Legal business with an illegal character
According to the statistical office Eurostat most European Union countries include prostitution and narkotargoviyata in the calculations of its gross domestic product. In Hungary, prostitution is legalized, but not limited to areas where there are schools and churches. However, that business becomes an illegal nature as largely managed to escape the sight of the tax authorities.
