Brussels will now monitor very closely

The European Commission will make recommendations monitoring of Bulgaria and Romania to continue after 2009 because of slow progress of reforms in justice and in combating corruption and organized crime, reported EUobserver.

The report of the EC, which will be officially published on July 22, states that both parties have not reached necessary to eliminate the special mode of observation.
Romanian authorities are trying to lobby for a swift exit from the mechanism for cooperation, but most countries are the biggest donors in the budget of the European Union, including Sweden and the President are against.

Brussels assessed positively the adoption of new civil and penal code in our northern neighbor, but wanted to ensure the positive impact of the Romanian legislation in the next few years.

Sofia we continue to be criticized for not facing criminal bosses to justice, especially those who have strong political connections and access to the funds of the European Union.

However, it is unlikely from Brussels to offer the imposition of sanctions, as happened last year, when they were frozen about 800 million euros for fraud and made connections with organized crime.
