EIB granted Romania 370 million for the metro in Bucharest

European Investment Bank (EIB) gave the green light to a loan of 370 million for construction of a new line of metro in Bucharest, announced today the Romanian Minister of Transport Radu Berchanu, cited by AFP.

Subway line, which preliminary estimates will cost about 700 million, will link the University Square in the center of Bucharest to find in the western suburbs of the Romanian capital district Drumul Taberey. The line will be 9 kilometers in length and has 14 stations.

And finalize the details of the loan of 300 million, which Bucharest wants to obtain from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. The money will be used for construction of a subway line from North Station to Otopeni International Airport.

Japanese company provides Itoshu to participate in this project, whose value is expected to reach 1 billion euros. The line, which will be 16 kilometers in length, is planned to be built for seven years.

Bucharest is the only Romanian city, which has underground. Subway has four lines, the first of which was opened in 1979.
