French Jobless Total Falls
The total number of people out of work in France dropped in June for the first time in a year.
The monthly headline jobless figures, issued by the economy ministry in Paris, showed a fall of 18,600 from the previous month.
That is down 0.7 percent from May, but still up by 25.7 percent from June last year.
Young people – the sector hardest hit by the downturn – saw the biggest fall. The number of under-25s without a job fell by 3.9 percent.
However there was a slight rise in the number of people working part-time and looking for a full-time job.
Finance minister Christine Lagarde was cautious; she said the situation in the job market is going to remain difficult in the next few months.
