Small Projects Program (PMP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Bulgaria will finance projects in the field of climate change for 790 200 dollars, reported by the organization.
„This amount is over 80% of the total budget for the financial period July 2009 – June 2010,“ explained Veleslava Abadjiev, national coordinator of the program in Bulgaria.
Climate change is one of five priority areas of the program, under which finance projects in the country. The remaining four are the conservation of biodiversity, international waters, combat land degradation and desertification and reduce the spread of persistent organic pollutants (POPs).
„The focus this year coincides with the global politics and campaigns to reduce human impact on climate change and striving to use less energy in everyday life“, commented another Veleslava Abadjieva.
The contribution of the program to reduce climate change in Bulgaria is currently under construction on 11 projects with renewable energy sources (RES) with installed capacity of 58 kW, 21 applied technology in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, determining potential energy wind into account the conservation of birds in Burgas, introduction of software for integrating energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in architecture and construction.
Most projects are financed by PMP demonstration nature.
The total number of supported projects in Bulgaria currently is 65 for over 3 million euro in the five areas of action. 28 projects are in tourism, 24 in agriculture, others are in the field of energy efficiency, sustainable products, policies, and other POPs.
The maximum value of a project is 50 thousand dollars. Required co-financing by the applicant.
In early June launched the project „Promoting best practices in the areas of PMP of GEF in Bulgaria, which aims to provide greater visibility of performance and impacts of the projects funded under the program.
Program for small projects of the Global Environment Facility work in 105 countries worldwide. In Bulgaria in 2005 is managed by UNDP.
