Mad fly to deep!

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned on global warming and climate change that the world cast a furious speed towards the abyss, cited by AFP, quoted by BTA.

„We stepped on the accelerator and fly straight to the abyss,“ said Ban Ki-moon told participants at the Third International conference on climate change, which runs from 31 August in Geneva under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization. The Forum continues until 4 September, with the participation of 1500 delegates from 155 countries, Reuters added, which refer to BTA.
Ban, who yesterday visited the archipelago in the Arctic part of Norway and he saw the effects of global warming on Arctic ice, shared his observations before the conference.
„What is happening now should have happened much later. Scientists have been accused for years that fighting unnecessary alarm. But those who fight unnecessarily alarm the people who say they should not undertake anything against climate change because it will slow economic growth, „Ban said, quoted by AFP.
He warned that by 2030 the Arctic may be completely free of ice, officials said. „The Arctic is warming much faster than any other place on Earth. Instead of reflecting heat, it absorbs the Arctic, sea ice is decreasing, and that accelerates global warming,“ said UN Secretary General. „Methane, which has so far been as trapped in permafrost and on the seabed, are now released into the atmosphere, and this is a gas that is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide,“ Ban added, quoted by AP-BTA .
Secretary-General pointed out that those who deny the effects of global warming are wrong, because this phenomenon can cause massive casualties. As an example, Ban said the danger than people living in coastal areas will be flooded by rising sea after the melting of Arctic ice. He called for „green“ economic growth. „We need a policy that establishes a price on carbon emissions. We need a public investment program for renewable energy sources,“ Ban told delegates to the forum.
At today’s meeting, the participants in the international conference approved the creation of a new surveillance system and information on climate change that will benefit everyone – from farmers to investors in energy, told Reuters.
