National Geographic Award in Bulgaria Best Edit

National Geographic Magazine Bulgaria received the award Best Edit of the international version of the NG article on „Be like the Balkans (the house of Karakachans).

This award is the highest award for our magazine – it is awarded to those established by local editions of NG items that meet the criteria of high artistic magazine. Best Edit recognizes the excellent work and way the best local articles and photos can reach all editions of NG. National Geographic magazine published in 28 languages and has 31 local editions around the world.

(The mysterious nature and extraordinary destiny of a remarkable ethnicity – Karakachans)
It is known that Karakachans name ( „black fugitives“) comes from the color of clothing, which brought in the past these people, but it appears that most of their old costumes were dark red. Several researchers consider them to be descendants of the most ancient population of the Balkans prior to and Thracians, and Greeks, while others seek Thracian origin or their Greek roots.
Known as „Europe’s last nomads, Karakachans themselves are convinced that once led settled lifestyle and were among the last defenders of Constantinople. The author and photographer Kyumyurdzhiev Lyubomir Danchev Ivo went to meet with representatives of this mysterious ethnicity pogostuvat them to know them and ask them … what are Karakachans.
