Bulgaria seeks EUR 10m compensation from Greece

Bulgaria’s prime minister Boyko Borisov referred the matter with the three blocked checkpoints at the Bulgarian-Greek border to Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission. The premier talked on the phone and sent an official letter. The cabinet notified the Greek government as well. Sofia has requested EUR 10 million compensation from Athens. Greece should take immediate measures to guarantee free traffic across the border. The blockade brings losses not only to Bulgarian companies and businesses but to Greek firms and carriers, too, the chairman of the parliamentary transport committee, Ivan Valkov, told the Pari daily. According to him, 25 to 30% of the trucks waiting at the border are from Greece.
