Francois Fillon: European Union needs an agreement with Russia

France’s Prime Minister Francois Fillon said Monday that the European Union needs an agreement with Russia to establish a single economic space which will enable countries to cope with financial crisis, officials said, quoted by BTA.
Fillon’s statement during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at his residence in Novo Ogaryovo near Moscow. Putin, in turn, praised the Franco-Russian relations and said he planned to visit France in November.
The prime ministers of France and Russia are also committed their countries to cooperate in fighting terrorism and sea piracy, ITAR-TASS.
Earlier today Francois Fillon was in Yaroslavl for participation in the international conference „Modern state and global security“ under the auspices of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. The main theme of the forum, which continues tomorrow, is the appearance of the modern state, its development and its contribution to security and stability worldwide.
Among the foreign representatives at the conference are also Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.
Fillon and Mr Medvedev spoke on the sidelines of the conference and expressed satisfaction that Moscow and Paris have similar views on regulation of global financial system in view of the forthcoming ten days after the Summit of the G-20, Pittsburgh, United States, after China staged.
