Greek police in the city of Patras has taken a big operation to destroy the camp with immigrants

Greek police has taken a big operation this morning to destroy the camp, inhabited by hundreds of immigrants, mostly Afghans, in the port city of Patras, AFP and AP reported. For the destruction of the camp were sent bulldozers.

Nearly 100 police officers involved in the operation which is expected to last several hours.

Upon arrival of the police camp was almost empty, apparently because the immigrants were advised of the action. But about 100 people, including 30 infancy, were detained by police and transported by bus to local hotels.

A large number of illegal immigrants aged between 15 and 25 years have inhabited the camp, located near the port. In the camp there was no drinking water and sanitation facilities. Immigrants have hoped to succeed in boarding the ferry to Italy.

Conflicts between Afghan and Somali immigrants are further sharpen tensions between the camps and people live in Patras. People from the area have requested the local authorities and government to take action against the camp.
