Putin: Turkey may move Ukraine into the transport of gas to Europe

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes that Turkey could replace Ukraine as a major transportation route for Russian gas to Europe.
Putin said this on Friday during a meeting with academics and experts from the Valdai International Discussion Club. In August, Russian Prime Minister had a meeting in Ankara, where he discussed energy issues with his counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
At present 80% of Russian gas to Europe is transported through Ukraine. Difficulties, including economically and politically, Russia is looking for ways to diversify energy routes. Nord Stream project, which aims to reach Northern Europe and South Stream line undergoing intensive training.
For meeting with Valdai International Discussion Club notes and newspaper Kommersant, which underlines the fact that the talks are instantaneous rather longer than expected. During the event itself Putin and Erdogan have held a telephone conversation that lasted nearly 2 hours.
