Bulgarian brewery Kamenitza changes owner

Bulgarian beer producer Kamenitza has changed its owner. The world’s biggest brewery, Anheuser-Busch InBev, announced it has finalised the sale of its Central European operations to investment fund CVC Capital Partners, after receiving approval from the European Commission on November 27, 2009.
The deal amounts to USD 2.2 billion and includes AB InBev’s all 11 breweries in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro, Romania and Serbia, as well as its distribution business in Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. An additional USD 800 million payment is contingent on the buyer’s return on the initial investment. The company that will manage AB InBev’s former business in Central Europe will be named StarBev and will be seated in Prague.
Kamenitza AD is owner of two breweries in Haskovo and Plovdiv, as well as of two malt plants in Pleven and Haskovo. It is the second biggest beer producer in Bulgaria with a market share of about 27%.
We continue our business as usual, there will be no change in the brands we make and distribute, Kamenitza’s Atanas Oshavkov told the Pari daily. The new owner has declared plans to invest in modernisation of the plants and brands.
Kamenitza will continue making Stella Artois and Beck’s under AB InBev’s license, as well as Staropramen, which is under licence of Staropramen privari AC. Kamenitza’s brands include Kamenitza, Astika, Burgasko, Slavena and Pleven.
