Reduced the external debt of banks
Gross external debt at the end of June 2009 amounted to 36 925.2 million, said Bank. It rose to 195.4 million (0.5%) compared with the end of 2008 (36 729.8 million). As a percentage of GDP gross external debt was 109 percent.
Short-term debt amounted to 13 172.5 million (38.9% of GDP) decreased by 115.7 million compared to the end of 2008 (13 288.2 million, 38.9 percent of GDP). Short-term Debt reduced by Banks 184 million (of which the reduction of non-resident deposits was 221.2 million euros).
Total debt to banks amounted to 8397.8 million (24.8% of GDP), decreasing by 679.3 million (7.5%) compared to the end of 2008 (9077.1 million, 26.6% of GDP). Towards the end of June 2008 (7884.4 million) debt, however, the sector grew by 513.4 million (6.5 percent).
Especially in June, the increase in debt was mainly due to the state sector as a contribution to this has received a loan from the World Bank. Overall, the month the state is attracting new loans for 165 million euros, almost as in the previous five months.
