Strandja biosphere became the first park in Bulgaria

During the week starts a two-year project for the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable local development in Strandja Mountain, the press of Tsarevo Municipality. The project aims to achieve a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature in Strandja, and demonstrate the benefits of socio-economic development of protected areas for local people and be actively involved in biodiversity conservation. Important part of the project is the creation of a modern biosphere reserve in Strandja in accordance with the commitments of Bulgaria to UNESCO. The project team will work to formulate and implement a communication strategy, conducting a sociological survey of public attitudes, the development and implementation of regional branding Strandja and modeling projects for the conservation of species and habitats of the involvement of local stakeholders. Simultaneously it will work with local people, developing environmentally friendly business. Representatives of the Foundation informed of Tsarevo mayor Petko Arnaudov with estimates of the project and opportunities to partner with the two municipalities of Tsarevo and Malko Tarnovo. Funds for the project were provided by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and amount to 519 780 euro. The project will be implemented by the Stock Exchange in partnership with the Department of Strandja NP, Bulgarian National Committee for the program „Man and Biosphere Program of UNESCO and the Department of Nature Management at the Norwegian Ministry of Environment.
