Bulgaria to have European medicine prices

From 2010 medicine prices will not be determined on the basis of the lowest price, as it is now, but on the average value of the lowest three prices in the EU, deputy minister of health Mila Vlaskovska said. However, the prices in countries without a fixed euro exchange rate like Hungary and Romania will not be taken into consideration. The currencies of the two EU members have been seriously affected by the financial and economic crisis. We will put an end to the practice of importing financial instability from other countries, Vlaskovska was adamant.
The pharmaceutical companies in Bulgaria praised the change in the pricing methods. The new rule will not raise medicine prices but will stop the process of withdrawal of products from Bulgaria, the director of the Association of the Research-Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in Bulgaria, Deyan Denev, pointed out. Due to the current pricing practice more than 300 medicines are no longer offered in Bulgaria.
