Brown: A sudden cut in subsidies is tantamount to suicide

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said that if the government suddenly stopped government subsidies to the economy, this would be tantamount to suicide, officials said.
In his weekly address, which this Saturday coincided with the 80-anniversary of the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, Brown said that times are tough, but confidence in certain areas of the British economy begins to return.
Statistics published on Friday shows that in the third quarter of this year the British economy continued to shrink, marking the longest recession in British history. Brown assured that economic growth will mark the end of the year, BTA notes.
“Сега, повече от всякога, е време за стабилна и ясна политика“, заяви премиерът. „It would be tantamount to suicide, if you expose the recovery of risk, such as suddenly cut off funding and investments that help young people, families and businesses in the most difficult times of a whole generation,“ he added.
The opposition Conservative Party, which will most likely win the general election next year, promises a faster and greater reduction in government spending to record government deficits under control.
